BODY PROCEDURES

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Arm Lift surgery, also known as “Brachioplasty”, reshapes the arm by removing excessive loose skin and fat of the upper outer arm, known as the triceps area. This condition may develop as a result of large volume weight loss or from aging.

If you are considering Arm Lift surgery we want you to be thoroughly informed about the procedure. Below is some helpful information. A personal consultation with your plastic surgeon is the best way to obtain the additional information you will need.

Considering Arm Lift Surgery

This procedure is ideal for those patients who have developed excessively loose skin over the outer area of the upper arms. The skin appears loose, and does not improve with exercise and further weight loss. The Arm Lift procedure will surgically remove the excessive skin, so that the upper arms have a smoother and firmer appearance.

Am I a good candidate for an Arm Lift?

An Arm Lift procedure may improve the shape and firmness of your upper arms if you have any one of the following conditions:

  • You are in good health and at your ideal weight of your weight loss program.

  • The appearance of excessively loose skin of the outer areas of the upper arms that have not responded to exercise.

  • If you are at a stable weight and have no large weight fluctuations, above 15 pounds.

  • If there is and uneven amount of loose upper arm skin and fat following weight loss, or from aging.

Consultation

During the consultation you will be asked about the results you expect to achieve from the Arm Lift procedure. This will help to understand your expectations and determine whether they can be realistically achieved.

How will I be evaluated for an Arm Lift?

The size and shape of the arms, and the quality of the skin will be evaluated. Measurements and photos may be taken for your medical record. Your current health and medical history will also be reviewed.

Will my insurance help cover the cover of surgery?

Arm Lift surgery, as a cosmetic procedure, generally is not covered by insurance. Many factors determine your eligibility for coverage, including the specific terms of your insurance policy. Check with your insurance carrier.

How is an Arm Lift surgery performed?

Individual factors and personal preferences will determine the specific technique selected for your Arm Lift. The surgery is done out our certified out patient surgery center under general anesthesia. Improvement of the appearance and firmness of the arms are immediately apparent. The results improve with time, and are best when the swelling from surgery has completely resolved.

Where are the incisions placed?

Typically the incision is placed in the inner upper arm, extending from the elbow to the underarm. The extent of skin laxity of the upper outer arm, as well as the amount of excessive skin to be removed will determine if the surgeon will need to extend the incision into the under arm area, so that the best contour may be achieved.

Understanding Risk

Every year, many thousand of people undergo successful Arm Lift surgery, and experience no major problems and are pleased with results. Anyone considering surgery, however, should be aware of both the benefits and risks of this procedure. This will be reviewed during your personal consultation with your plastic surgeon.
