FACIAL PROCEDURES

Facelift (Rhytidectomy)

A facelift smoothes the loose skin on your face and neck, tightens underlying tissues and removes excess fat. As a result, your face will appear firmer and more youthful.

If you are considering a facelift, we want you to be thoroughly informed about the procedure. A personal consultation with your plastic surgeon is the best way to obtain the additional information you will need.

Considering a facelift

A facelift restores smoother, more pleasing contours to your face and neck. It can help you look as good as you feel, and perhaps feel younger than you are.

Am I a good candidate for facelift?

You may be a good candidate for facelift if you have one or more of the following conditions:

  • In good health  an a non-smoker
  • A deep line, or fold or fold, running from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth.
  • Jowls, or loss of a well-defined jaw line associated with youthfulness
  • Deep wrinkles in the cheeks and sagging of the "highlight" areas of the cheek bones
  • Loose skin, wrinkles, vertical "cords' excess fatty tissue in the neck

A facelift can improve all of these problems. It cannot correct conditions such as sagging eyebrows, excess skin and fatty deposits in the upper and lower eyelids, or wrinkles around the mouth. Your surgeon can provide further information on other procedures to help correct these areas

Your personal consultation

During the consultation with your plastic surgeon, you will be asked about the results you would like to achieve from a facelift. This will help her to understand your expectations and determine whether they are realistically can be achieved.

Your surgical experience

Our goal is to make your surgical experience as easy and comfortable for you as possible.

If you’re a smoker, you will be asked to stop smoking well in advance of surgery. Aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs can cause increased bleeding, so you should avoid taking these medications for a period of time before surgery. You will be provided, with complete preoperative instructions.

A facelift may be preformed on an outpatient basis, at our certified surgery center under general anesthesia. Your plastic surgeon will provide you with complete preoperative instructions. A bandage will be wrapped around your face to help minimize swelling.

How will I look and feel initially?

It is important to realize that each individual’s recovery time will be different. You will be asked to restricted your activities and relax for a few days. Elevating your head when you sleep will help to minimize swelling and bruising.

Any bandages and drain tubes will usually be removed in one or two days. You will notice puffiness and discoloration which may be pronounced in some portions of your face that others. Generally, the greatest amount of swelling occurs 24 to 48 hours after surgery, but I may take several weeks before all puffiness is resolved. Most bruising will disappear within two weeks. After a few days, you will be permitted to wear make-up which may be present discoloration. You will also experience some numbness in the facial areas, which may be presented for several weeks or longer. Your stitches will be removed from four to seven days after surgery.

Results of your facelift

The result of your facelift may be dramatic, depending on how you look before surgery as well as the specific goals that your plastic surgeon has established. Since the healing process is gradual, you should expect to wait at least several weeks for an accurate picture of your new look.

How long will the result last?

This will depend on many variables including your heredity and lifestyle factors. Even though the aging process continues, patients are usually happy with their appearance for many years following a facelift.
