--> Voluma - Cosmetic Surgery Orange County | Image Plastic Surgery by Dr. Peter Newen MD

As we age, our faces begin to show the effects of gravity, sun exposure and years of facial muscle movement, such as smiling, chewing and squinting. The underlying tissues that keep our skin looking youthful and plumped up begin to break down, often leaving laugh lines, smile lines, crow’s feet or facial creases over the areas where this muscle movement occurs.

It is important to understand the difference between neuromodulators and dermal fillers. Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators that work by preventing muscles from contracting so that wrinkles are softened. Dermal fillers work by plumping up creases and hollowness, restoring fullness to the face. Fillers can also be used to create fuller, more sensuous lips.

Voluma is a hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in our bodies that is well suited to lift the midface. Voluma lasts approximately 2 years.

Many times, by simply addressing the cheeks, the area underneath the eyes and laugh lines will be indirectly improved as well.
